Hotel Ambadi is a theme resort situated at the Periyar Tiger Reserves, and is one of the first private sector resorts in Kerala. Designed by the world renowned architect Mr. Lauwrie Baker, the hotel was conceptualised on the traditional splendor of a typical Kerala village, complete with a thulasi thara and nallukettu. The best time to visit Periyar is between October and May. The hot months of March, April and May are the best times to sight wild animals. Scarcity of water brings the animals, especially the herds of elephants, down to the Periyar Lake to bath and frolic in the waters. Its centrepiece, the man-made Periyar Lake at a height of 2000 ft. covers an area of 26 square kilometres.
Wildlife in the sanctuary include elephants, sambar deer, wild boar, Nilgri langur monkeys, bonnet and lion-tailed macaques, porcupine, the Gaur, mouse deer, bears, wild dogs, civets jackals, flying squirrels, mongoose, pangolin cobra and others.

Trekking - Ambadi is located very close to the Periyar Wildlife sanctuary, and a short stroll will get you to the sanctuary in minutes. Visit cardamom, pepper, coffee and tea plantations, where you can have an inside view at the growing ,harvesting, processing stages of these products. A guide will accompany tourists on a trek which is around three hours in duration.
