You have total peace and tranquility with Brahminy Kites, Pond herons, King fishers and crabs for company. There is only one guesthouse in one acre of Coconut Plantation, canal and mangrove forest. Coconut Island is meant for 2 people only.
The house has a traditional Kerala design with open verandah at all sides. Wooden pillars support the roof around the verandah. The cottage consists of one spacious bedroom of 180 square foot and 320 square foot verandah. The cealing is done with Mahogany wood in traditional fashion
The bedroom has two cozy beds on beautifully carved wooden coats. The room is well equipped with large wooden almiraha, writing desk, dressing table, tea-poy and chairs etc. The room has enough privacy and the beautiful views through six large windows and two doors. The island always has good breeze and very fine climate. The bedroom has sealing fan and an air conditioner in case you wish use them.
Large - 150 square foot - open roof bath garden with granite floor has cold / hot water showers and all the modern fittings.
There is another house in the island serves as kitchen. The kitchen is spacious and open to guests at any time. The varandah of this house also commands a good view of the backwaters and serves as a choice of dining place.
A ferry service by a country boat passes by the island every 20 minutes with children going to school, toddy tapers, fish vendors with their bicycles.
You may also get to observe the unique mode of sand-transportation used here - the Kettuvallom. This is a stitched boat, 70 foot long, 30 tons capacity, made with wooden planks joined and stitched together with coconut ropes and painted with cashew nut oil inside and fish oil outside - passes by the island about 7 to 10 times every day, with sand collected from the bottom of the backwaters at the mouth of the sea.
