Revolutionary farmer, Mr Gul Muhammed, introduced the villagers to green mussel farming on coir in 1996 and this has now become the lifeline of some 3500 families along the coastline!
The brackish water of Padanna and its surrounding village are gifted with enormous beauty. There are a number of tiny islands thickened with coconut plantations and mangroves, a long coast line and an estuary.
Five rivers empty out into the sea here. There is lots to explore in the Theme village, as one is free to move in and out at will. The villagers are generally shy in nature, not being exposed to the world outside their village. One can indulge in any or all of the following activities:-
- Join the farmers along the 24-km stretch of oyster farming.
- Study Sea - Weed farming, Cage culture and a wide range of natural clam and edible oyster farming.

- Set off on a boat-ride through River Thejaswini through the woods and fields.
