Thomaschettan's Farm is a traditional farm house. Guests stay in the farm house with the family. All meals are with the family - typical Kerala style breakfast, lunch and dinner, not to mention the snacks in between. Guests are free to tour the farm and the farming villages around including interaction with the community, initiation and participation in farming and the cosmic influences based on the traditional farming calendar. As the Farmer's personal guest, you share the warmth of the home along with the culture and cuisine of Kerala. Guests are welcome to participate in the farming activities that go on round the year.
The farm has spices like pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon ,vanilla ginger, turmeric, hot-pepper; Fruits like pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, mangostine, guava, jackfruit, chickoos, different plantain varieties; medicinal herbs, seasonal vegetables, rice fields, and is interspaced with hard wood trees. The homestay has been under 100% organic management since 1985 and under Bio-Dynamic initiation for the last couple of years.
Study the Biodynamic farming methods involving not only organic farming but also working with the elemental forces - Earth, Wind, Water and Fire. The relation of all life forms to the cosmic rhythms is an accepted way of life here. The movement of the Sun, Moon and the planets not only in the Zodiac but also in the in 27 star groups called nakshatras, a contribution of Vedic astronomy, and its formations with the planets are closely followed in the tilling, seeding, transplanting, fertilising, weeding, pest and fungal control, harvesting and compost making at the farm.
The farm is a perfect place to live with the silence of nature and the enchanting music of the Magpies, Crow pheasants, Water hens, Koels, Indian Parakeets, Barbets, Kingfishers, Woodpeckers, Racket tailed drogos, Indian Mynas, Grey tits, Tree pies, Did he do its, Herons, Cranes, pigeons and of course the House Crows and other fauna who share space and resources with us.
