In the early 1800s Annamma and Thoma Yohannan Chennakkattu, with the goodwill and blessings of their father Reverend Yohannan Kathanar, a clergy man of the Syrian Orthodox Church settled down in the village of Kadayiruppu at the south western tip of peninsular India, then an ever green forest where tigers and other wild animals roamed freely.
They were a farming community, and the generations that came into being thereafter have come to be known as the Nechupadam Kudumbam. Presently, the fourth generation is managing the farm.
