Col & Mrs John Abraham - your local connection in Kerala will ensure you have a memorable KERALA EXPERIENCE. Kerala - "God's Own Country" - a land bestowed with beauty so enchanting that visitors and warriors alike have been attracted to its shores since ages - the warmth and hospitality of its people, the exotic produces of this Spice Garden and the inviting coconut groves that Mother Nature has gifted to its people have made it one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Asia.
If it is relaxation with a difference that you are looking for, hop aboard a houseboat for one of the most fascinating cruises of your life. A cruise in houseboat along the backwaters of Kerala is an experience not to be missed. A houseboat is a huge and slow moving exotic barge. Traditionally known as Kettuvellam (Boat with knots), they have been carefully converted for cruises with bamboo mats, sticks and wood of areca nut trees and other natural products.
The houseboats have all the creature comfort of a good hotel - with well furnished bed rooms, modern toilets, a cosy living room and a balcony for angling. Parts of the curved roof of plated palm, spans out to provide shade, and uninterrupted views of the swaying palms and green paddy fields. The houseboat leisurely glides and cruises through the tranquil lake and narrow canals.
The Houseboats, traditionally used for transportation of goods in this region before the road network came up, have now been converted with a sitting room, bedroom, sun-deck and kitchen.
The staff on board include a personal cook and two boatmen. All meals are served onboard. The boatmen propel the Houseboat from the bow and stern using bamboo-punting poles. An outboard motor is also used at times.
The panoramic view of the waves of the backwaters kissing the palm fringed shores, the mirror-still lagoons, picture-book lakeside and the intricate network of canals and rivers connecting the interior villages all offer a unique experience.
